Financing
Climate Adaptation
in the Age of AI
We are bringing together senior impact investors, tech companies, and practitioners to discuss how AI can accelerate climate adaptation finance in emerging markets.
Climate adaptation draws private capital near USD 5 billion a year against developing-country needs of USD 310 to 365 billion by 2035, largely because the risk cannot be priced. Organized data can convert that uncertainty into risk an underwriter can name and cover, and the cost of processing that data has fallen sharply. AI systems that can help are unfunded in these markets. Of the USD 42.77 billion of committed AI capital across five emerging market regions since January 2023, 94.3 percent went to compute infrastructure. This session puts action-oriented people who move capital in a room to work on addressing both gaps.
The co-hosts make their own commitment in the same breath. UNCDF and Accendo will produce a concept note on financing AI-enabled adaptation through agricultural value chains within sixty days, carry the room’s corrections into it, and take it to donors to raise funding for the first chain.
Who is in the room
Twenty-five senior participants: fund general partners, limited partners, development finance institution staff, family offices and grantors, alongside colleagues from UNCDF and the United Nations Development Programme. The panel is organized by class of capital rather than by topic, which is why the form asks what kind of organization you represent.
The Impact Investors’ AI Circle is a program of Accendo Associates. It takes cohorts of impact funds through structured working sessions on the use of AI across the investment process. Circle Summits extend that work into convenings where members and their peers apply the same discipline to a shared financing problem, of which this session is the first.
Details collected here are used to arrange United Nations building access and to run the session. They are shared with UNCDF for that purpose only, and deleted within thirty days of the event.
